Two men spotted with a machete on residential street

Date published: 24 July 2023

Two men with a machete were spotted acting ‘suspiciously’ on a residential street in the Falinge area of Rochdale on 5 July.

The incident was caught on CCTV footage by a local resident who has shared the footage with Rochdale Online to raise awareness: we have decided to show only stills from the footage to avoid potentially identifying the resident and their house.

In the CCTV footage seen by Rochdale Online, the two men creep around the side of a car, with one clearly holding a billhook machete behind his back.

The two men appear to look at something through a second car windscreen before skulking off towards Falinge Park.

The entire observation lasts about 30 seconds.

The resident, who has reported the incident to the police, said: “It’s not normal for anyone to carry a big knife like that.

“The police haven’t visited to view or take the CCTV footage. No courtesy visit either to reassure the neighbourhood.”

Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for comment.
