A dangerous driver who reached speeds of 80mph before crashing into the wall of a children’s nursery at Healey corner has avoided jail.

Zain Anwar, 18, of Heywood, lost control of the Toyota Auris he was driving after attempting to negotiate Healey corner at speed, crashing the car into the wall of the Small Worlds nursery.

Officers from Lancashire Constabulary’s Rural Task Force, based in Waterfoot, had requested the Auris to stop in Whitworth in the early hours of 3 September last year.

The Auris sped off and reached speeds of 80mph in a 30mph zone, overtaking other vehicles.

Anwar fled the scene, but was traced with the help of CCTV footage.

Anwar appeared at Burnley Crown Court where he was banned from driving for 18 months and ordered to be required to pass an extended driving test once his ban expires.

He was given a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.
