Junior doctors to strike from 11-15 April

Date published: 03 April 2023

Junior doctors across England are to strike again on Tuesday 11 April for four days, affecting every NHS hospital in Greater Manchester.

The strike takes place from 06.59 am on Tuesday 11 April to 06.59 on Saturday 15 April.

The NHS in Greater Manchester has issued important advice for the public, who should attend appointments as planned unless they are contacted to rearrange.

Not every hospital and ambulance service will be affected in the same way by strike action. Resources will be prioritised to protect emergency treatment, critical care, neonatal care, and trauma, and ensure patients who have waited the longest for elective care and cancer surgery are prioritised.

Everyone who has an appointment should attend as planned, unless your local NHS provider has contacted you to reschedule. If you have not been contacted, please attend your appointment even if your hospital trust is affected by strikes.

Anyone who needs urgent care should use NHS111 online or call NHS 111 to be assessed and directed to the right care for them.

Emergency care will continue to be available across all parts of the country.

When someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk, you should seek emergency care in the normal way, by calling 999 or attending A&E.

Mark Fisher, chief executive, NHS Greater Manchester, said: “With Easter bank holiday approaching and further industrial action planned, we are also encouraging members of the public who take regular medication to make sure they have collected their prescription early.

“The NHS continues to be there for those that need it, and it is important that people continue to  come forward for the care they need by using 999 in an emergency or using 111 online for other conditions.”
