Four days of rail strike action announced

Date published: 13 March 2023

Strike action has been announced by the RMT union on 16, 18, 30 March and 1 April, affecting Northern train services.

On strike days, there will be a very limited Northern service running. Some Northern stations will have no services and trains will be busy and will finish earlier.

Days either side of strike action will have a late start to services and it is advised to check before you travel.

The below services are the only services running on the strike days of 16 and 18 March. Later strike date timetables will be available closer to the time.

  • Darlington - Saltburn
  • Liverpool - Manchester Airport
  • York - Leeds
  • Leeds - Hebden Bridge
  • Leeds - Ilkley
  • Leeds - Skipton
  • Leeds - Moorthorpe - Sheffield
  • Leeds - Bradford Forster Square

There will be no rail replacement buses on strike days for Northern services and some Northern stations may be closed or have reduced hours due to the limited staffing and services.

For more details on ticket easement and refunds, you can visit the Northern website here.

Check before you travel:

You can check your journey up to and including 17 March using the National Rail Enquiries Journey Planner

Below is a summary of when Journey Planners will be showing the revised timetable for subsequent travel dates:

  • For journeys on 18 and 19 March, please check back after 14 March
  • For journeys on 29 to 31 March, please check back after 25 March
  • For journeys on 1 and 2 April, please check back after 28 March

When the planner is updated, please check your entire journey is still possible, especially as the first and last trains of the day may have changed.
