Uniformed and public sector jobs fair for Universal Credit claimants

Date published: 18 January 2023

A jobs fair for Universal Credit claimants wanting a career in the uniformed and public sector will take place at Number One Riverside, in Rochdale town centre, next month.

The fair takes place from 10am to 1pm on Tuesday 14 February and places must be booked via your Jobcentre work coach.

Employers present at the fair will include Greater Manchester Police, the Royal Navy, the Army, Rochdale Health Alliance, the North West Ambulance Service and the NHS, plus more.

Molly Brown, DWP Local Partnership Manager, said: “Our work coaches are here to support people taking the first steps on their journey back to work.

“The priority is helping those 50Plus, and others who may need to build confidence and develop new skills because they’ve been out of the jobs market for a while.”

In November, it was announced that additional support to help those over 50 get back into work would be forthcoming.

The Jobcentre-led ‘mid-life MOTs’ will be facilitated and led by the DWP 50Plus champions, and will be delivered in a group information setting. The MOTs are voluntary and will consider:

  • ways to overcome barriers to employment
  • the benefits to improving earnings and savings potential
  • retirement planning
  • their employment skills set and strengths
  • suitable career options available to them
  • how to balance work and health conditions
  • how long they need to continue working before retirement
  • what their income is likely to be in retirement

Contact your work coach to book your place at the jobs fair. If you do not have a work coach but are in receipt of Universal Credit, you can send a message via your UC account to book.
