Make a difference in 2023 by volunteering with HMR Circle

Date published: 07 January 2023

If one of your New Year’s Resolutions for 2023 is to help other people, consider the mixed range of volunteering opportunities with the award-winning local social enterprise which works to reduce loneliness in older people.

Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Circle – HMR Circle – is on the lookout for volunteers across a range of areas, including driving, admin, lunch events or the digital sector.

The Volunteer Drivers Service is currently the Community Transport Association Car Sharing Scheme of the Year for the United Kingdom.

In 2022, Circle’s drivers took nearly 7,000 transport requests from the trips to the hospital, doctors, dentist and other medical appointments as well as to social events.

As part of the wider Volunteer Drivers Service, there are some bespoke services, including the new HMR Circle Home from Hospital Service, and taking those living in care homes to dental appointments. This service help get people home from hospital, speeding up the discharge process and helping people settle back in at home.

The drivers have also undertaken emergency food shops and prescription collection/deliveries for the local authority.

If you have access to a vehicle and can help out, HMR Circle would love to hear from you.

There are also roles available at any of the three Lunch Club-Clubs, Dinner Drivers or Full Circle (events and activities with all 27 Rochdale Boroughwide Housing Independent Living Schemes).

Each event has a social host, and Circle is always looking for new social hosts to help.

In the office there are different opportunities where you can help either with simple admin, helping with telephone calls or updating bookings, whatever your skill levels.

Volunteers are also needed to help run digital classes for the over 50s, helping them learn basic IT skills whilst staying safe and connected online.

For more information on digital volunteering opportunities, please call 01706 751 165 or email claire@hmrcircle.org.uk.

If you are interested in any of the opportunities listed, or would like to discuss what skills you could offer, please get in touch: email hello@hmrcircle.org.uk or call 01706 751 165.
