Date published: 20 December 2022

Dr Chris Brookes – the chief medical officer of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust – is retiring this month.

A spokesperson for Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust said: “Dr Chris Brookes announced his plans to retire as Chief Medical Officer earlier this year.

“He chose to retire from the NCA in December 2022 to enable him to take up a role with a rugby league club, whose season starts in January 2023.”

Dr Brookes started as executive medical director at Salford Royal in 2010 whilst continuing as a senior consultant in the emergency department at Salford Royal.

In January 2017, Chris was appointed chief medical officer for the Committees in Common for Pennine Acute and Salford Royal, in addition to his post as executive medical director for Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust.

In April 2019, Chris was appointed chief medical officer/deputy chief executive for Group Committees in Common and Salford Royal Foundation Trust Board of directors.

Away from the hospital, he provides medical care to the Wigan Warriors and England rugby league teams.
