10-year-old Newhey busker raising thousands for Manchester children’s hospital

Date published: 07 December 2022

Jacey-Mae Hand is back again this year with an aim to raise £10,000 for the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital before Christmas.

The young girl who started busking three years ago will be in Manchester the week before Christmas, singing her heart out to make up the last few thousand needed to meet her target.

Last year, the young performer made a statement when she made over a thousand pounds in just a few hours.

Currently, she’s made £6,740 and will be going into Manchester the week before Christmas to try and reach her goal.

Jason Stead, Jacey-Mae’s father, said: “Its been three years since she got her first guitar that had plastic strings and now she’s busking in Manchester and raising thousands.

“She started at the end of her grandad's drive and would make 20 pence here and there and we thought that we could put this money to a good cause.

“She makes her own music and will be singing some of these songs when she heads into Manchester.

“Last time she was there was in summer, she made over £700 in one day.”

This summer, Jacey showcased her talent on Oldham’s Got Talent and came in first place.

Jason added: “Jacey actually has a stammer and you can see this sometimes when she’s speaking but as soon as she starts singing, you would never notice. She’s a bright girl and just loves singing.

“She’ll performs anything from Dolly Parton to more modern music like George Ezra and whatever’s popular in the charts.”

You’ll be able to see Jacey performing at the Arndale in Manchester on 20, 21, 23 and 24 December where she hopes to reach her target for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
