Co-op members raise £27,000 for local good causes

Date published: 11 November 2022

Co-op members across the Rochdale borough have raised over £27,000 for local causes over the last year by scanning their membership cards.

One penny in every £1 spent on Co-op products and services goes to a good cause, with the 12 groups supporting at least one of the Co-op’s missions: access to food, fair access to mental wellbeing, fair access to opportunities and helping to tackle climate change.

The groups included Awakening Minds, NorthWest Life Education, Rochdale Connections Trust, Castleton Health & Leisure, Middleton Popstars, Sandon House, Friends of Holy Trinity, Littleborough Boxing, Littleborough District Lions Club, Belfield Art Group and Finding Her Feet.

Last week the Co-op teams across the borough celebrated various Pay Out celebrations totalling £27,127.48. The Pay Out was part of a 117 million raised nationally for local community causes across the UK benefiting 7 million people since 2016.

Co-op members have raised over £27,000 for 12 local causes in the last year

Each Co-op held a small celebration with their local causes and Mayor of Rochdale Ali Ahmed came along to the Cutgate store last Friday to celebrate alongside members, store managers and various local causes.

Julie Durrant, Member Pioneer for Rochdale and Norden, who attended her first Pay Out Celebration was overwhelmed with the support from local Co-op members over the last 12 months.

She said: “We look forward to welcoming our new local causes and continuing to support local people with our mission to Co-operate for A Fairer World.”
