Samba Dance & Fitness pick up over 80 trophies at Dance It Championships

Date published: 11 November 2022

Dancers from Whitworth's Samba Dance & Fitness have returned from the Dance It Championships in Skegness with more than 80 trophies.

In total, 27 dancers travelled to the October championships where they took two first-place prizes, a second and a third in the team events, plus individual winners and finalists in the solo, pairs, slow dance, and rock and roll events.

Principal Samantha Clarke said: "They have been working extremely hard for this competition, already competing regularly and only just completing their exams then off to compete in these championships. It's so good to see Covid hasn't stopped them from doing what they love and achieving the grades they so deserve.

"Most of these youngsters have only just started competing, while others competed for the last time due to reaching the age where work and college take over.

"They only have one more competition this year then we can rest for a bit, yet they will still be working hard in class ready for the years to come. We don't just do competition classes, we do lots of classes just for fun with no pressure at all, in everything from drama and singing, ballet to freestyle and many fitness classes.

"It's been so good to have our doors back open and see those happy faces in the studio this year."
