Springhill Hospice Walk to Remember raises over £9,000

Date published: 03 October 2022

On Saturday 18 September, 169 people from across the borough of Rochdale joined Springhill Hospice for its annual Walk to Remember, to pay tribute to their loved ones.

Walkers took on an 8 mile route beginning at Springhill Hospice, leading up to the picturesque Ogden Reservoir, and then returning back to the hospice. If walkers wanted to push themselves further, they had the option of increasing the route by an extra two miles, taking the scenic route around the reservoir. The route was fully marshalled by a team of fantastic volunteers..

Walkers ranged from one year olds in their prams to 80 year olds taking the day in their stride. Members from all communities within Rochdale joined forces with the shared unity of walking in memory of someone special to them. Walkers donned their green Walk to Remember t-shirts, personalised with photos and messages in memory of their loved ones. Some even went that extra step further by wearing neon wigs and bright skirts as part of their outfits.

Councillor Ali Ahmed, Mayor of Rochdale, made an appearance to officially start the race and wish the walkers good luck.

Springhill Hospice would like to say a huge thank you to the amazing organisations who supported the Walk to Remember:

  • Bluebird Care who sponsored the Walk to Remember t-shirts and also generously donated water coolers
  • Office Supplies Now who donated water to keep our walkers refreshed
  • The Co-op who donated hot drinks
  • Morrisons who donated bananas and energy bars
  • Bird In Hand, Huddersfield Road for supporting the marshalls and providing a half way stop for the walkers

Springhill Hospice would also like to say an extra special thank you the staff and volunteers who spent the day marshalling the route, to keep the walkers safe.

The Walk to Remember 2022 has raised a fantastic £9,025 so far, with the amount expected to rise as supporters continue to pay in their sponsorship money.
