Rochdale: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To provide a safe and convenient place to park away team supporter coaches on match days at the Crown Oil Arena, and to safely vacate supporters away from the stadium.

Expected start and finish: Saturday 1 January 2022 – Saturday 31 December 2022.
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary one-way working on Ings Lane in a northerly direction along the westerly carriageway, from its junction with Edenfield Road to its junction with Rooley Moor Road. Vehicles won't be able to travel along Ings Lane in a southerly direction from its junction with Rooley Moor Road to its junction with Edenfield Road.
  • Temporarily prohibit vehicles from turning right from Lisbon Street onto Ings Lane.
  • Temporarily prohibit vehicles from turning right from Great Flatt onto Ings Lane.
  • Temporarily prohibit vehicles from turning left from Innes Close onto Ings Lane.
  • Temporarily prohibit vehicles from turning right from Cutgate Road onto Ings Lane.
  • Temporarily prohibit vehicles from travelling along Wilbutts Lane, from its junction with Sandy Lane to its junction with Churchill Street.
  • Temporarily prohibit vehicles from travelling along Phoenix Street, from its junction with the easterly side of Ings Lane for a distance of 10 metres in an easterly direction.
  • Temporarily prohibit vehicles from waiting at any time on Ings Lane, both sides from its junction with Rooley Moor Road to its junction with Edenfield Road.

Alternative route

  • The alternative route for vehicles along Wilbutts Lane is Sandy Lane, Edenfield Road and Churchill Street.
  • The alternative route for vehicles along Phoenix Street is Churchill Street and Rooley Moor Road.
  • The alternative route for vehicles along Ings Lane (southbound) is Ings lane (northbound), Caldershaw Road and Edenfield Road (A680).

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To allow essential building works on the park wall.

Expected start and finish: Monday 26 February 2022 – Friday 10 February 2023.
Restriction and location: Temporary prohibition of parking at any time on a part of the south side of Nelson Street. This will be enforced from a point 9 metres north west of its junction with Church Lane for a distance of 56 metres in a westerly direction.
Alternative route: Not applicable.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To repair the carriageway.

Expected start and finish:

  • The closure of Dell Road will be in place from Tuesday 23 August 2022 – Monday 31 October 2022.
  • The prohibition of waiting will be in place from 8am – 5pm, Mondays to Fridays, Tuesday 23 August 2022 – Monday 31 October 2022.

Restriction and location:

  • Temporary closure of Dell Road, from its junction with Shawclough Road for a distance of 330 metres in a north westerly direction.
  • Temporary prohibition of waiting and loading or unloading on Dell Road, from its junction with Shawclough Road for a distance of 305 metres in a westerly direction.

Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is Market Street, Shawclough Road and Dell Road.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install a new telecommunications cable in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 8am, Saturday 1 October 2022 - 5pm, Sunday 2 October 2022.
Restriction and location: Temporarility prevent vehicles from travelling along Partington Street from its junction with Manchester Road to a point 25 metres in a south-westerly direction.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route available for vehicles.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install a replacement water manhole cover in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 8am, Saturday 1 October 2022 - 5pm, Sunday 2 October 2022.
Restriction and location:
Prevent vehicles from travelling along:

  • Canon Street from its junction with Halifax Road to a point 30 metres in an easterly direction
  • Clayton Street from its junction with Halifax Road to a point 30 metres in a westerly direction

Alternative route:

  • The alternative route for vehicles travelling in an easterly direction of Canon Street will be Halifax Road, Dover Street and Clarke Street.
  • The alternative route for vehicles travelling in an easterly direction of Clayton Street will be Halifax Road, Henderson Street and Division Street.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To replace a waste water manhole cover in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 8am, Saturday 8 October 2022 – 5pm, Sunday 9 October 2022.
Restriction and location: Temporary one-way working along Roch Street, from its junction with Albert Royds Street to a point 10 metres in a westerly direction. This will affect westbound traffic only, traffic travelling east won't be affected.
Alternative route: The alternative route for westbound vehicles is Albert Royds Street (the Rochdale bypass), Halifax Road and Canon Street.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To safely hold the Milaad Procession.

Expected start and finish: Sunday 9 October 2022 from 10am - 2pm.
Restriction and location:
Temporarily stop vehicles from travelling along:

  • Miikstone Road, from its junction with Drake Street to its junction with Tweedale Street
  • Tweedale Street, from its junction with Milkstone Road to its junction with Freehold Street
  • Freehold Street to its junction with Merefield Street
  • Merefield Street to its junction with New Barn Lane
  • New Barn Lane to its junction with Ashfield Road
  • Ashfield Road to its junction with Deeplish Road
  • Deeplish Road to its junction with Milkstone Road
  • Milkstone Road to its junction with Miall Street
  • Miall Street to its junction with Durham Street
  • Durham Street to its junction with Crawford Street
  • Crawford Street from its junction with Oldham Road to its junction with Trent Street

Alternative route: Due to the nature and duration of the event, it is not necessary for alternative routes to be in place.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: Safe access to BT telecoms manhole covers in the carriageways.

Expected start and finish: 7pm - 6am each day from Monday 10 October 2022 - Saturday 15 October 2022.
Restriction and location:

  • Prohibit vehicles from proceeding along College Road in an easterly direction from a point 15 metres west of its junction with St Mary's Gate to its junction with St Mary's Gate. Vehicles travelling in a westerly direction will not be affected.
  • Prohibit vehicles from making a right-turn from The Esplanade onto St Mary's Gate in a north-easterly direction.
  • Prohibit vehicles from making a left-turn from Manchester Road onto Dane Street in a westerly direction.

Alternative route:

  • The alternative route for vehicles travelling in an easterly direction along College Road will be Mellor Street, Dane Street and St Mary's Gate.
  • The alternative route for vehicles for the right-turn from The Esplanade onto St Mary's Gate will be Dane Street, Mellor Street and Spotland Road.
  • The alternative route for vehicles for the left-turn from Manchester Road onto Dane Street will be St Mary's Gate, College Road, Mellor Street and Dane Street.

Reason: To install 2 electric link boxes in the pavement and a new electric main in the road.

Expected start and finish: 8am, Saturday 22 October 2022 – 5pm, Sunday 23 October 2022.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Shawclough Road, from a point 22 metres south of its junction with Harrdige Street for a distance of 40 metres in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Bentley Street, Whitworth Road and Shawclough Road.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To hold a bonfire and firework display at Cronkeyshaw Common.

Expected start and finish: 6pm - 9pm on Sunday 2 November 2022.
Restriction and location:
Temporarily prevent vehicles from travelling along:

  • Greenbank Road from its junction with Whitworth Road to its junction with Eva Street.
  • Dewhirst Road from its junction with Greenbank Road to its junction with Binns Nook Road.

Temporarily suspend waiting and loading at any time along:

  • Fieldhouse Road on the southside only for its entire legnth.

Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To hold a Remembrance Day memorial service.

Expected start and finish: 7am - 2pm on Sunday 13 November 2022.
Restriction and location: Prohibit vehicles from travelling along Woodhouse Lane from its junction with Shawfield Lane for a distance of 45 metres in a north-westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is Shawfield Lane, Edenfield Road and Woodhouse Lane.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install a new traffic calming measure in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 8am - 5pm on Sunday 15 January 2023.
Restriction and location: Temporarily prevent vehicles from travelling along Heights Lane from its junction with Knowsley Street to a point 435 metres in a northerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is Howard Street, Whitehall Street and Quarry Street.

Middleton: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Middleton
Reason: To install a zebra crossing and carry out works to pedestrian islands.

Expected start and finish:

  • The closure of Kingsway will be operative from Monday 22 August 2022 – Friday 14 October 2022.
  • The closure of Kirkway will be operative from 7am – 6pm every day from Sunday 25 September 2022 – Sunday 2 October 2022 as required.

Restriction and location:

  • Temporary closure of the following roads:
  • Kingsway, from a point 50 metres west of its junction with Kirkway, for a distance of 130 metres in an easterly direction.
  • Kirkway, from a point 65 metres south of its junction with Kingsway for a distance of 120 metres in a northerly direction.

Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closures are in operation.

Area: Middleton
Reason: To allow the safe delivery of works required for a new housing development.

Expected start and finish: Monday 22 August 2022 – Friday 26 January 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Rothay Drive, from its junction with Bonscale Crescent for its entire length.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.

Area: Middleton
Reason: To repair an electricity fault in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: Wednesday 31 August 2022 – Wednesday 21 September 2022.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Rookway, from its junction with Crow Hill South for a distance of 50 metres in an easterly direction.
Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in operation.

Area: Middleton
Reason: To repair a waste water sewer in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: Friday 9 September 2022 – Friday 30 September 2022.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Mount Road, from a point 10 metres north of its junction with Naunton Road to a point 10 metres south of its junction with Naunton Road.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is Kingsway, Kirkway and Mount Road.

Area: Middleton
Reason: To replace gas mains in the road.

Expected start and finish: Monday 24 October 2022 – Friday 4 November 2022.
Restriction and location:
Temporary closure of the following roads:

  • Monmouth Street, from its junction with Birchwood Road for a distance of 55 metres in a northerly direction.
  • Elmbank Road, from its junction with Monmouth Street for a distance of 40 metres in an easterly direction.

Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Monmouth Street, Larchview Road, Oakdene Road and Birchwood Road.

Heywood: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Heywood
Reason: To resurface the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: Monday 19 September 2022 – Sunday 30 October 2022.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Garden Street, for its entire length. The road will be closed in sections and we'll maintain access to all on-street and off-street premises where possible.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Bridge Street (A58), George Street and West Starkey Street.

Area: Heywood
Reason: To replace a connection onto a water main.

Expected start and finish: Monday 3 October 2022 – Wednesday 5 October 2022.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Wilton Street, from its junction with Kenyon Street to its junction with Dickens Street.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is Wilton Street, Kenyon Street, Tower Street and Dickens Street.

Area: Heywood
Reason: To repair a damaged sewer in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: Monday 3 October 2022 – Friday 7 October 2022.
Restriction and location: Temporary suspension of bus lane on Dawson Street in Heywood. All vehicles can use the centre lane from a point 15 metres east of the unnamed road linking Market Street with Dawson Street for a distance of 39 metres in an easterly direction. This will then transfer to the nearside lane for a further distance of 35 metres in an easterly direction.
Alternative route: Not applicable

Area: Heywood
Reason: To resurface the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 8am - 6pm each day from Monday 17 October 2022 – Monday 7 November 2022.
Restriction and location: Prohibit vehicles from travelling along and waiting at any time along Tonge Street from its junction with Miller Street to its junction with Aspinall Street.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be signed on the street when the closure is in operation.

Area: Heywood
Reason: To build a sewer connection for a new housing development.

Expected start and finish: Monday 24 October 2022 – Monday 7 November 2022.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Peel Lane, from a point 25 metres south west of its junction with Tintern Avenue for a distance of 55 metres in a south westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Peel Lane, Cedar Avenue and Claybank Street.

Pennines: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Littleborough
Reason: To allow access for heavy equipment and machinery.

Expected start and finish: 8am – 6pm each day, Monday 11 July 2022 – Monday 12 December 2022.
Restriction and location:
Temporary prohibition of waiting along the following areas:

  • Riverstone Bridge, both sides for its entire length
  • Railway Street, both sides from its junction with Peel Street for the remainder of its length in a south westerly direction

Alternative route: Not applicable

Area: Pennines
Reason: To carry out urgent electricity jointing work to repair a fault.

Expected start and finish: Friday 2 September 2022 – Friday 28 September 2022.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Clay Street, from its junction with New Road to its junction with Cecil Street.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is Starring Road, Cecil Street and Ashwood Drive.
