Spooky family fun day at Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary on 30 October

Date published: 16 October 2022

There will be spooky goings-on later this month at Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary but black cat Luna Lollipop isn’t afraid!

The Edenfield sanctuary, just outside the Rochdale borough, is hosting a spooky family fun day on Sunday 30 October from 12-3pm.

There will be pumpkin carving, pottery painting, a best-dressed competition for children and dogs and a treasure hunt, among other activities for just £2 entry fee.

Black cats can be hard to rehome but Luna Lollipop, aged four and who has been at Bleakholt since April, is hoping she will have found her forever knee by the time one of her favourite nights of the year arrives!

Shrouded in mysterious superstitions, some believe black cats are harder to rehome for their associations with witches, whilst it has also been suggested that they don’t photograph as well their brighter friends.

As a result, they are consistently overlooked when it comes to adoption - but more and more people are inviting the miniature panthers into their lives. In 2017, the dusky felines took 13% longer to rehome than moggies of other colours - but in 2019, black cats took only two more days on average to find a home than cats of other colours.

In the UK, a black cat crossing your path is believed to bring good luck, despite other countries, such as America, believing the opposite.

Adopting a black cat

Please contact the sanctuary if you’re interested in adopting one of Bleakholt’s beautiful black cats, including Luna:
