Dementia care specialists on your doorstep

Date published: 22 September 2022

Home Instead Rochdale has pledged to train 16 more dementia care professionals by the end of the year, adding to the 36 that have already received the company’s specialist training.

Home Instead gives care professionals the chance to undergo City & Guilds assured dementia training. It means that older people in the area can continue living at home if they receive a dementia diagnosis and receive the care crucial to their health and wellbeing.

The commitment follows news that as of June 2022 dementia is now the leading cause of death in the UK with around 900,000 people living with the condition.

The training teaches innovative techniques for dealing with dementia, as care professionals learn effective ways of managing the vast range of behaviours associated with the illness. This includes challenging actions like refusal, delusions, aggression, false accusations, wandering and agitation.

A key outcome being that care professionals learn to respect the person as an individual and can observe, honour and support their lives.

David Bradshaw, owner of Home Instead Rochdale said: “Thanks to our legion of care professionals, families in the area have been given the reassurance that their loved one living with dementia is safe and well at home. It is my pleasure to continually train more people to perform this role.

“We’d like to speak to anyone who would like to come onboard and join our team of care professionals, particularly those who are keen to become a dementia care professional. You don’t necessarily need previous sector experience; the most important attributes are a kind heart and a desire to make a difference.”

In addition to dementia care, Home Instead Rochdale offers personal care, such as help with dressing and bathing, home help and companionship care.

Home Instead Rochdale hosts a monthly wellbeing café for people living with the disease, as well as their carers and families. It offers a safe space for them to relax, socialise and spend time with likeminded people.

The café takes place on the first Tuesday of every month at Butterworth Hall in Milnrow. People can book a table by ringing Home Instead Rochdale on 01706 249100.
