Survey about your menopause experience

Date published: 06 September 2022

A new survey has been launched, inviting local people to share their experience of menopause/perimenopause with health watchdog, Healthwatch Rochdale.

In the UK it is estimated that around one in three people are either currently going through or have reached menopause with symptoms including anxiety, mood swings, brain fog, hot flushes and irregular periods. This period of life can impact work, family and personal life.

The perimenopause is the time when you have some of the aforementioned symptoms before your periods have stopped. You reach menopause when you have not had a period for 12 months, and they stop due to lower hormone levels. This usually happens between the ages of 45 and 55 but can happen earlier for a number of reasons.

The work follows Healthwatch Rochdale’s Advisory Group’s decision to try and gain a better understanding of local people’s experience of menopause/perimenopause following feedback received.

Healthwatch Rochdale wants to understand how this affects local people and the support and treatment available to them. They have launched a short survey so that people can share their experiences quickly and easily but are also looking to speak with people who are willing to share their stories in more detail to gain a better understanding of their experience.

Kate Jones, Healthwatch Rochdale CEO, said: “We are here to listen to local people and really want to hear how menopause has affected them. Telling us how well services have worked for you and what could have made things better can be used to help us make recommendations for change. Experiences can be shared anonymously if preferred but it is important that we get to hear them, so please talk to us.”

You can share your experience via the short survey by clicking here.

If you would like to share your story in more detail or face to face please email info@healthwatchrochdale.org.uk

The survey closes Monday 31 October.
