Second Kingsway Park student fundraising for dream Borneo conservation trip

Date published: 21 August 2022

A second student at Kingsway Park High School is fundraising for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to carry out conservation work in Borneo.

Amy Warren, 13, has been given the chance to visit the South East Asian island with school expedition provider Camps International in 2024, which is keen for students to fundraise the costs of the trip.

In Borneo, Amy will spend a month local communities build shelters and help update the local school, as well as helping conservation of orangutans with a five-day trek through the jungle.

To raise the £4,580 for the trip, Amy has been holding lots of tombola stalls and her family is planning an event at the Cask & Feather pub on Drake Street (date to be confirmed).

Her mum, Sarah, said: “We will be doing bingo bongo, lots of raffle prizes to be won and will be doing a big booze hamper to raffle off as well.

“She has also been attending a needle felting workshop and crochet workshop in attempt to make things to sell. We’ve done scratch cards at local pubs, guess the number of sweets in a jar, and things like that.

“Amy has worked so hard giving up her weekends to fundraise for what really will be a once-in-a-lifetime trip when she’s 15. She adores animals so I think the visit to an orangutan sanctuary drew her in.”

So far, Amy has raised £878 and has also had the support of the Morrison’s store at Kingsway, which has held several tombolas for her.

Donations to help Amy visit Borneo can be made via GoFundMe.
