Unwanted uniforms for Middleton primary and secondary schools are needed for a free uniform swap next month.
The Random Acts of Kindness Group Middleton is hosting a school uniform event where families can get any school clothes needed free of charge.
School uniforms for any Middleton primary and secondary schools – and surrounding areas – are wanted, including shoes, trousers and skirts, blouses and shirts, ties, jumpers and blazers etc.
Donations must be clean and washed and in good condition.
Anyone dropping donations is also asked to bring an item of food for the Lighthouse Project’s food bank, which is in dire need of supplies.
Nichola Beaman, who runs the group, said: “With so many struggling again with the cost of living I wanted to do something again to help people give back to the community by donating, and showing others there’s no shame in needing help. Knowing where to turn to is such a warming feeling, knowing they won’t be judged.
“The Lighthouse Project is now taking donations for all types of uniform – shoes, bags, coats – anything school related no longer needed that another family can use. We can’t do it if we don’t get lots donated in due to the amount of primary and high schools in the Middleton area.
“We would love a big collection.”
She added: “The Lighthouse Project is in desperate need of food supplies for the food bank, which is used by many local families each week. If anyone pops in to drop uniform off, and if you have an extra food item you can drop in, so many people can benefit from a simple act of kindness.
“When coming to the uniform event, how great [it would be] if you could swap an item for uniform.”
Items needed for the foodbank include UHT milk, sugar, tinned vegetables and potatoes, pasta and curry sauce, soup, fruit juice and cordial, tinned meat, tinned fruit, rice pudding or sponge pudding, custard, breakfast cereal, jam or spread, and biscuits and snacks.
Items can be donated to the Lighthouse Project – on the top floor of Middleton Shopping Centre – between 9.30am and 4.30pm, Monday - Friday.
The school uniform event will take place at the Lighthouse Project on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 August, from 12 noon.
