A 19-year-old man has been airlifted to hospital after a car rolled down an embankment at Blackstone Edge on Tuesday evening (19 July).

The man was airlifted to be treated for major trauma after the car left the road at around 6pm.

Emergency services attended the scene and also called both local mountain rescue teams.

A spokesperson for the police said: "We were called to an incident on Halifax Road in Littleborough at around 6pm.

"Emergency services attended the scene with the person of the vehicle suffering an injury after falling down an embankment. The person in question was taken by air ambulance for treatment."

A spokesperson for Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue said: “We were called to assist NWAS (North West Ambulance Service) with an RTC where a vehicle had left the road and was down a steep embankment near Littleborough.

“As the team was mobilised, Oldham Mountain Rescue Team were also contacted as this was the boundary between both teams. However with some team members enroute and vehicles preparing to leave base, we were stood down.”
