‘Dangerous’ muddy path between Norden and Greenbooth Reservoir restored

Date published: 18 July 2022

A walking route between Norden Village and Greenbooth Reservoir has been restored.

The muddy path has been replaced to make it suitable for walkers with added steps and drainage to prevent it falling into disrepair.

The path was restored a couple of weeks ago by Rochdale Council’s rights of way team and United Utilities.

Former Man of Rochdale, Paul Ellison, raised the issue of the 'dangerous' walking conditions with Norden ward councillor Jim Gartside before it was escalated to the council and United Utilities.

Paul said: “It’s been long overdue; it was a dangerous mud bath. You couldn’t walk up the hill because there was so much mud. This is one of the main paths from the village to the reservoir and now the walking route has been completed.

“The path had been in disrepair for at least a decade and United Utilities also installed drainage for the top water on the fields. Unfortunately, people in the past had injured themselves on the path; I’m quite able and even I had to cling onto anything I could to get up there.”

“A huge thank you to United Utilities, Rochdale Borough Council and Councillor Gartside for making this project come to fruition.”
