Darnhill Youth Group help refresh floral display ahead of Heywood in Bloom judging

Date published: 15 July 2022

The floral display at Heywood Fire Station has been refreshed by Heywood in Bloom and Rochdale Connections Trust.

Members of the Darnhill Youth Group – which is run by run by Youth Development Workers Jennie and Ifra from Rochdale Connections Trust – worked alongside Heywood in Bloom to tidy and repaint the area outside of the fire station.

They got stuck into the weeding, pruning, prepping and painting of the lifeboat, hanging baskets, flower beds and the fencing around the fire station.

Firefighters came out to help as well, providing assistance with the prepping and painting and they also showed the RCT youth group around the fire engine and equipment.

Ellen Wintle-Yates, of Heywood in Bloom said: “The young people were fantastic and worked really hard to get our displays looking as good as possible in readiness for the judging next week.

“Our thanks go to RCT for bringing the young people across to help and we hope the efforts of the young people are recognised by the judges.”

Bev Place, of RCT, said: “This was a great opportunity for the young people of Heywood to give something back to the local community by offering their time to uplift the run-down display before the In Bloom judging commences next week.

“They all thoroughly enjoyed their time supporting Heywood in Bloom and there was lots of laughs to be heard whilst they volunteered. Everyone was very impressed with the results and RCT youths look forward to being involved with other Heywood in Bloom projects in the near future.”
