Rochdale schoolteacher publishes children's book

Date published: 19 July 2022

A former primary school teacher from Rochdale has published a children’s book, ‘Survival on Cannibal Island’.

Written by Stuart Barlow, the 148-page sees two groups of children, used to battling it out in a game of hide and seek tag called ‘Survival', find themselves transported to a different land – Cannibal Island – where they go looking for a more challenging adventure.

The group of boys and the group of girls compete against each other in a race to find the treasure. However, they are stalled along the way as they meet with many challenges native to the island, ranging from poisonous scorpions and giant ants, to groups of angry pirates and hungry cannibals.

While the pirates chase after the children in search of their misplaced treasure, and the cannibals hunt for a tasty snack, the boys and girls must decide whether to work together - or keep the treasure all to themselves.

Stuart taught in local primary schools for a number of years. His passion focused on the teaching of imaginative writing with an emphasis placed firmly on children enjoying the use of vocabulary, style and context to produce a piece of work they could be proud of.

In his spare time, he completed three degrees at Manchester University, including a PhD.

‘Survival on Cannibal Island’ is published by Olympia.
