Trees to be planted in Norden for Queen's Green Canopy

Norden’s ward councillors have put the area ‘on the map’ with a Jubilee celebration project which will see a special selection of native trees planted around the ward as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy project.
Councillors decided that given the rural nature of the village and surrounding areas this would be the perfect way to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and also add a lasting legacy to the ward.
Councillor Peter Winkler said: “The Queen’s Green Canopy is a nationwide project which will see thousands of native trees planted across the UK to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year.;
“We know how much people value our trees so this was just a perfect way to mark a very special occasion. The trees that we are planting today will hopefully live long lives in our village and surrounding areas and will be enjoyed by many generations over the years.”
Councillors have contacted officials at the Queen’s Green Canopy project regarding the plans and have had official handmade plaques made which will accompany each of the trees.
The project includes a national map marking the location of all the trees and Norden’s additions will be added so that people all over the world and future generations can identify and visit the trees in years to come.
Councillor Holly added: “Trees are such an important part of our community, they make the ward more beautiful, benefit our health and help the environment.
“The Queen and the Royal Family have long been champions of tree planting and we are pleased that our village will be listed amongst those to have taken part in this national project.”
Members of the public are being invited to get involved too, you can plant a tree in your garden, school or allotment and upload details to the official map.
Once added, Norden’s Queen’s Green Canopy trees can be seen on the official map.
