Elderly couple in their 80s attacked and burgled in Rochdale

An elderly man in his 80s was knocked unconscious during a burglary in Rochdale last month.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the aggravated burglary on King Street East between 8.45pm and 9.30pm on Tuesday 8 February 2022.

Three men stole cash and also a walking stick belonging to one of the occupants. It is believed a fourth man was part of the group and waited with a car on Castlemere Street.

The offenders who entered the property are described as Asian and wearing dark clothing. 

Detective Constable Frances Pearson, of GMP's Rochdale district, said: "A couple in their 80s were inside at the time of the incident.

"The female was ushered back into her bedroom, had her walking stick taken from her and was stopped from leaving, while her husband was hit on the hand with a screwdriver and then knocked unconscious after being pushed over.

"This was a nasty attack that fortunately didn't result in serious injuries but the couple were left shaken.

"We are appealing for witnesses who may be able to offer any further information about this incident or have any dash-cam footage of this area at the time.

"Information can be given to police by calling 0161 856 4810 or 0161 856 8441 quoting incident number 2941 of 08/02/2022.

"Alternatively, information can be passed on to the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
