Investigation continues after woman dies

Date published: 10 March 2022

A woman in her 50s has died after an incident at an address on Edenfield Road last week.

Police were called by paramedics to the address near Shawfield Lane last week (Thursday 3 March) to a report of concern for the welfare of a woman with severe injuries.

The woman was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, but sadly died the following day (Friday 4 March).

Police have said that a number of lines of enquiry are being followed up to determine how the woman suffered her injuries but that they're 'keeping an open mind at this time'.

A man arrested at the time on suspicion of Section 18 assault has been released under investigation.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "An investigation following a report of a concern for the welfare of a woman at an address on Edenfield Road in Rochdale continues.

"A woman in her 50s was taken to hospital but sadly died on 4 March 2022.

"A 47-year-old man arrested at the time has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

"Detectives are continuing to establish the circumstances around the woman's death and anyone with information can report it online."

Speaking last week, Detective Inspector Nicola Hopkinson, from Rochdale's CID, said: "Our investigation is in its early stages and a number of lines of enquiry are being followed up to determine how this woman suffered her injuries but we're keeping an open mind at this time."
