A woman is in hospital in a critical condition and a man has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault following an incident at a property on Edenfield Road yesterday (3 March 2022).

Police were called by the North West Ambulance Service to a report of concern for the welfare of a woman at an address on Edenfield Road, near Shawfield Lane in Rochdale just before 6.30pm.

The woman, in her 50s, was taken to hospital and is currently in critical condition.

A 47-year-old man has been arrested and remains in custody.

Detective Inspector Nicola Hopkinson, from Rochdale's CID, said: "Our investigation is in its early stages and a number of lines of enquiry are being followed up to determine how this woman suffered her injuries but we're keeping an open mind at this time.

"She is currently in hospital in critical condition and our thoughts are with her loved ones who are understandably worried and would like answers.

"Anyone who may have any information that may be able to assist with our investigation is asked to call 0161 856 8576 or report it online or via our LiveChat service on www.gmp.police.uk.
