Man dies on railway line at Smithy Bridge

A man has sadly died on the railway line at Smithy Bridge railway station on Sunday evening (6 February).

Paramedics and British Transport Police were called to the station at 6.34pm following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

The man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Rail services between Rochdale and Todmorden were temporarily suspended until around 9pm, with replacement buses running at this time.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police confirmed the incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
