Sentimental military plaque stolen during Rochdale burglary

Date published: 18 January 2022

A ceremonial military plaque is among a number of items stolen during a burglary in Rochdale.

Police believe burglars broke into MCC - Motorbikers Cosmetic Company - at Fieldhouse Industrial Estate at about 4.30pm on 2 December 2021.

Items stolen included family Christmas presents and a laptop, with damage caused throughout the building.

Also stolen was a Household Cavalry helmet insignia which was mounted on a commemorative plaque.

The helmet belonged to George Coxon who served with the regiment from 1951-1964 and rode in the Queen's Coronation in 1953 but died aged 80 in 2007.

His daughter, Beki Coxon, who runs the company with partner Mark Matthews, said: "The plaque is hugely sentimental to our family and dad was very proud of it.

"Dad was Corporal of Horse in the Blues and Royals division of the Household Cavalry and wore the helmet for the Queen's Coronation - we would dearly like to get the plaque back.

"It was presented to him before I was born and has hung on the wall for as long as I can remember so we would dearly like to get it back."
