Around 2-5cm of snowfall is expected, but as much as 10cm could be possible on higher ground
A weather warning for snow has been issued for this Friday (7 January), covering the North West of England.
The Met Office says wintry showers are “likely to lead to a fresh covering of snow for areas above 200m.”

The weather alert comes on the back of a cold weather warning issued for this week.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is encouraging people to stay warm and look out for those most at risk from the effects of cold weather.

Frequent sleet and snow showers may lead to some difficult driving conditions and disruption to travel on Friday morning.
What to expect
- Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
- Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
- Some brief power outages are possible with a risk of isolated lightning strikes.
