Date published: 31 December 2021

Detectives in Rochdale have arrested a man in relation to the sexual assault of a teenage girl in the memorial gardens  in Rochdale town centre in May 2021.

A 37-year-old man is currently being held in custody after being arrested in Rochdale yesterday (Thursday 30 December) on suspicion of sexual assault.

The arrest follows an appeal for information issued by police last week with an image of a man they were keen to speak to in relation to an alleged incident in the memorial gardens on Friday 28 May.

The 17-year-old victim continues to be supported by specialist partner agencies and has been kept updated with the latest developments in the investigation.

Enquiries are ongoing and police have thanked the public for their support with the appeal.
