Rochdale Foodbank thanks supporters

Steve Field, chair of trustees at Rochdale Foodbank, thanks everyone for their continued support over a difficult year.

It will be no surprise that it has been a busy time for the foodbank over the last few weeks. Although the number of those needing our help has been increasing, our resolute team of volunteers and our ample donors have meant we have been able to meet the challenge more than effectively.

As usual, we have been very well served by our donors, across the borough. There have been some great efforts from a number of schools in these last couple of weeks: Oulder Hill School, Wardle High School, St. Cuthberts High School and Hollingworth Academy are the outstanding secondary schools amongst a number of primary schools and churches, all of whom have made great efforts. Our new warehouse in the Exchange Shopping Centre is being stretched by the quantities that are coming in and there’s still another week to go.

This is always alongside the giving [week in and week out] of individuals, families and businesses across the town; giving that always increases at this time of year. We are more than grateful for the support we have had from John Taylor and the Freemasons throughout the year and from both McCormick and L’Oreal for their sustained support.

The Round Table has been able to collect again which has been a welcome large boost to our stocks. In the last weeks we have had financial support from the local Amazon depot; Christmas vouchers from our long time supporters at Hanson Springs and a significant donation from the Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, through the good work of our former trustee, Ian Sandiford.

There will be other welcome contributions to come and, no doubt, some we have missed. Our sincere thanks go to all of them as well. That giving whether it has been food or money, will help us to manage our charitable work throughout the winter; another challenging and tough winter for too many.

Thank you for all that support; may it continue as long as it is needed.

Donations to Rochdale Foodbank can be made at Rochdale Tesco or Rochdale Asda supermarkets.

The foodbank has a warehouse on Newgate in Rochdale town centre where donations can be dropped off:

The opening times are;
Monday to Friday, 10.00am – Midday (except Wednesday when the warehouse closes at 11.30am)

The warehouse is not open for donations over Christmas but is accepting donations up to and including Thursday 23 December, then again from Tuesday 4 January 2022.

If you require parking do so at the entrance to the loading bay – stay with your vehicle, call 07847 463 483 – for assistance. If you have a large donation, please call the above number in advance to arrange access to the loading bay.
