Second man arrested in connection with axe robberies at Morrisons Daily

Detectives investigating a series of robberies at a Morrison's Daily Store on Albert Royds Street, Rochdale which occurred between 13 November to 13 December have made a second arrest.

The robberies involved a man, often wearing a mask and wielding an axe entering the store and demanding cash and scratch cards from the tills.

Thankfully no one received any injuries during the robberies.

Today (16 December) a 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery. He currently remains in custody for questioning.

A man in his 30s who was previously arrested on suspicion of robbery has been released under investigation.

DC Elizabeth Stacey, of GMP's Rochdale district, said: "These were terrifying incidents, and although no-one was physically injured, staff were left feeling incredibly frightened and shaken.

"I would like to reassure the community that we are doing all we can to investigate these incidents thoroughly which has resulted in officers making a second arrest."
