Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary's 12 animals of Christmas appeal

Date published: 14 December 2021

Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary has launched its 12 Animals of Christmas appeal, to help find permanent homes for some of the featured cats, dogs and small pets.

Other animals, like goats, donkeys, horses, sheep, pigs and even a turkey, are available for £30 a year sponsorship as they live out their lives at the 55-acre Edenfield site.

Day one: Tina the turkey

Tina has a sad story with a happy ending. Tina, aged four, was bought by someone to kill for their Christmas dinner in 2017.

The owner found her to have a lovely sweet and gentle nature and couldn’t do it and so they dropped her off at Bleakholt. Tina will now live out her life at Bleakholt with the hens.

Day two: Grumple Goatskin

For £30 a year, centre of attention Grumple Goatskin is up for sponsorship. He has been at the sanctuary since 2014, after being found abandoned.

He is very confident and has a huge ego; he loves to being stroked and admired among the other farm animals. He is ten-years-old and loves mints.

Day three: Zeeke the lurcher

Zeeke is a one-year-old male lurcher who is friendly and excitable but can be a little nervous.

He isn’t keen on cyclists, joggers, loud noises and cats. He does get worried when he is left alone, and while he is hit and miss with other dogs, training is helping him with this.

He needs a home with no children and lots of patience, but once he knows you, he is adorable.

Day four: rabbits Jelly Tot, Jelly Bean and Bon Bon

Yes, they are all sweet in nature! They are all sisters who want to go to a home as a group of three as they all love each other. They haven’t been handled a lot so need a bit of patience and plenty of space.

Day five: Tim the cat

Tim is a handsome Bengal cross cat and, due to this, needs someone with experience of Bengal cats. He is vocal and loves a good chat.

He is eight-years-old and active: he needs outdoor space, a semi-rural home, where he can go out and about! He does love all the attention, so needs to be an only cat.

Day six: Reggie the dog

Reggie is a nine-year-old Chihuahua who, when he loves you, he loves you! He unfortunately doesn’t like children or men, and would be happy living with a single lady with a garden.

He has been at Bleakholt five months and really needs a quiet home of his own.

Day seven: Kizzy the cat

Kizzy is certainly a character. She is three-years-old, highly independent and loves to snuggle up with a blanket.

She loves to be outside, enjoys playing but can be a bit rough with her teeth and claws, so needs an experienced cat owner and a home with no children or other cats.

Day eight: Dexter the Shar Pei cross lab

Bleakholt would love to find Dexter a home. He is around 10-years-old and has been at Bleakholt for three years.

Dexter has typical Shar Pei characteristics; he takes well to some people but dislikes others. However, once he has bonded with you, he is extremely loyal.

He needs to be the only pet and with someone experienced with dogs.

Marlie would make an amazing companion

Day nine: Marlie the Shar Pei cross Akita

Gorgeous six-year-old Marlie is looking for a special home. Like his breed, he is wary of strangers but once he loves you, he is devoted.

Marlie needs a quiet home, without many visitors, where he can feel safe and relax. He has had some behavioural training and has done well.

He needs a home without children and, once he gets used to you, will be an amazing companion.

Day ten: Lukey the ginger cat

Handsome boy Lukey needs a special home with someone who has a lot of experience with cats.

He is seven-years-old and came to Bleakholt due to not settling with the neighbouring cats – he was getting stressed and showing aggressive behaviour.

He would prefer a home with no children, the only pet and plenty of outdoor space. His lovely long fur also needs brushing. Lukey loves food and catnip!

Day eleven: Huskies Logan and Angel

These two are a bonded pair and need a happy home together.

Logan is four and Angel three and they came from another rescue. Logan is loving and likes to sing you a song; Angel is more timid until she knows you.

Both need plenty of exercise to keep them happy and healthy.

Day 12: Boris the guinea pig

Cute little Boris is at Bleakholt with Bertie, Barney and Grandpa Joe and they need to be rehomed as a four, or in pairs.

They live mostly indoors with access to outdoors in warm weather and need someone experienced with guinea pigs.
