Rochdale Rugby Union’s Ladies team help out in the community

Date published: 15 December 2021

Members of the Rochdale Rugby Union Ladies team have turned their attention to the local community, having recently taken part in the Santa Dash run and the Rochdale Giving Back Christmas Toy Appeal.

The ladies raised over £400 for Springhill Hospice during the Santa Dash event at Queen’s Park on Sunday (12 December), with the team wearing their kit and Santa suits, passing a rugby ball between them all the way.

The previous day, the team used its Moorgate Avenue club as a drop-off point for the annual council Christmas Toy Appeal, which helps make sure local children who are less fortunate have presents to open on Christmas Day.

Player Hollie Dews said: “We used our rugby club as a drop point for all brand new, unwrapped toys that people wanted to donate.

“Along with other volunteers within the community, we sorted the toys into age groups and helped to wrap, ready for their new homes.”

Hollie added: “We are always welcoming new recruits. All ages and abilities are welcome. We train every Tuesday from 7-8pm.”

The ladies team’s next fixture is against Sedgley Park Women on Friday 17 December at 7pm at Rochdale Rugby Union Club, Moorgate Avenue, Bamford, Rochdale; all supporters welcome.
