Cold survival kits distributed to homeless by iCare Rochdale

Date published: 14 December 2021

Sixty ‘cold survival kits’ have been donated to the Sanctuary Trust at Halsall House Hostel on Tweedale Street on Friday (10 December).

The kits have been put together by Madina Mosque’s iCare team after raising £1,800 and delivered by Imam Abdul Hakeem, of Madina Mosque, and Imam Syed Asad Ali, of Neeli Mosque.

A further 30 kits will be delivered to other organisations this week.

Temperatures over the previous few weeks have been well below freezing, at times dropping to -6C. These kits provide essential items for those currently homeless, such as a thermal foil blanket, hat, gloves, scarf, bag and thermal clothing.

The survival packs were gratefully received by the centre manager, who advised they would come in very useful for those in need.

Shazad Ali, head of iCare Rochdale, said: “It is incredibly inspiring to see the UKIM Rochdale mosques come together in partnership and get involved to help those that are less fortunate in their locality.”
