Heywood Lions celebrate 47th and 48th charter anniversaries

Date published: 12 December 2021

After two cancelled events, the Heywood Lions Club finally managed to celebrate their 47th and 48th charter anniversaries with a special lunch at Castleton’s Royal Toby Hotel.

Members and their guests enjoyed a splendid meal followed by two very special presentations to past members, Mary Hilton and family members of the late Cynthia Thompson, awarded in recognition of their outstanding service to their local community.

Mary and Cynthia had served as Lions for a combined total of 35 years; this was in addition to their community service with Heywood Pensioners organisation and Friends of Queen’s Park.

Both women were presented with Melvin Jones Fellowships, named after the Lions Clubs International Foundation’s founder. Melvin Jones Fellowships are given to those who have made a significant donation to the foundation.
