Date published: 07 December 2021
Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Aasim Rashid
The search is on for the borough’s young superstars as nominations open for the Mayor’s Youth Awards.
The awards, organised by Rochdale Youth Service, have been running for a decade and they celebrate the achievements, contributions and developments of young people across the borough of Rochdale. This is a great opportunity to recognise the many young people that have done wonderful things in their community during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Aasim Rashid, said: “These awards are always so inspiring, we get amazing nominations that really do reflect the remarkable talent and dedication of our young people. It’s a proud occasion for the council’s youth service and I can’t wait to hear all about the wonderful achievements.”
The awards team is looking for nominations that recognise young people who have made a real difference to the people in their lives, whether it’s through work in the community, sporting achievement or commitment to their friends and family. These are the unsung heroes who do special things to help others or, through their talent and ability, set a great example to other young people about what is possible by working hard and achieving success.
Councillor Rachel Massey, cabinet member for children’s services and education at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “These awards identify and reward the young people who are making a positive impact in our borough through their own hard work, compassion and dedication. It is important that we recognise them for the work they are doing and the positive impact they have on their peer groups and the community.”
Nominations are now open and they close at midnight on Friday 14 January 2022.
Anyone can nominate a young person who lives in the borough aged 11 to 19, or up to 25 if they have a disability.
The winners will be selected by young people who attend youth service clubs and nominees will be invited to the award ceremony on Tuesday 14 February 2022 at Middleton Arena.
