Lottie Harnett runs length of Blackpool Illuminations for Springhill Hospice in grandad's memory

Date published: 16 November 2021

Seven-year-old Lottie Harnett has raised over £1,000 for Springhill Hospice in memory of her grandad, Eugene.

Lottie ran the six-mile length of the Blackpool Illuminations on 31 August when she was six years old, finishing the distance in an impressive one hour and six minutes.

Eugene sadly died on 4 July this year, aged 62, after being cared for by Springhill Hospice.

She had hoped to raise £250 in Eugene’s memory, but instead raised a staggering £1,225, which was handed over on Saturday 6 November.

Lottie’s mum, Emma, said: “It was Lottie’s own idea to raise money for Springhill. She decided to run the full length of the illuminations as both her and her grandad loved a trip to see them where she would push him in his wheelchair.”
