Bilal Mosque shortlisted for British Beacon Mosque award

Date published: 10 November 2021

Rochdale’s Bilal Mosque has been shortlisted for a British Beacon Mosque award after winning a new category in the annual North West in Bloom competition.

Bilal has been shortlisted for ‘Best Green Initiative’ which is now open for public voting until 1 December.

The masjid won ‘Best North West Mosque’ at the 2021 North West in Bloom awards at Number One Riverside last week (4 November), which formed ‘Masjids in Bloom’, part of the Rochdale in Bloom entry. Bilal was one of five mosques to enter alongside Neeli, Central, Golden and Jalalia, which all planted various trees, plants and shrubs.

The Beacon Mosque Awards are the first of its kind Mosque Awards in the world, celebrating the work of Islamic institutions in 10 different categories.

The Beacon Mosque Awards were created to highlight the pivotal role mosques and Islamic centres play in local communities and contributing to the UK’s social fabric.

Mohammed Moheeb, of Bilal Masjid, said: “We have North West In Bloom and Rochdale In Bloom really pushing for Jamia Masjid Bilal to win this competition and bring the trophy home to Rochdale which would be a massive achievement for us all.”

Votes can be cast here until 1 December.

Results will be announced on 4 December.
