Generous pupils donate to Rochdale Foodbank for harvest season

Date published: 09 November 2021

Generous pupils at St Peter’s Church of England Primary School in Kingsway have donated an abundance of food to the Rochdale Foodbank for the harvest season.

Headteacher, Aelred Whelan said: “In these unprecedented times, it is heart-warming that so many of our children and families give donations helping the vulnerable across the borough.

“The children have been talking and learning about the importance of sharing and remembering all the good things that God provides for us.

“As part of this celebration, the children were asked to donate food for the Rochdale Foodbank. Our very generous families showed huge support to this worthy cause and all the donations will go directly towards helping others in our local community.”

The food, which included 12 boxes of non-perishable items, will be distributed to some of the town’s neediest families.

The foodbank, based at 8 South Parade, was set up in 2012 and operates on a voucher system, provided by over 130 agencies in Rochdale who have identified people in crisis, who may struggle to buy food.

The voucher is honoured like a cheque, in exchange for three-days’ worth of goods.

Donations to Rochdale Foodbank can be made at Rochdale Tesco or Rochdale Asda supermarkets.

The foodbank has a new warehouse on Newgate in Rochdale town centre where donations can be dropped off:
