Man arrested after asking women and girls to get in his car

Date published: 04 November 2021

A man approaching women and girls in Rochdale has been arrested after exhibiting predatory behaviour, including asking them to get in his car.

After receiving reports from members of the public on Wednesday (3 November), the man was quickly identified and arrested. In addition to asking people to get in his car, police say the man had also made personal comments and took photographs, all behaviours which can make women and children feel unsafe in public.

Members of the public had reported being approached near Oulder Hill School, with Norden Primary School sending out a precautionary message to parents, as well as near the Tesco at Sudden, and in Bamford.

Police are now appealing for anybody with information to get in touch to aid in the investigation.

Chief Superintendent Nicky Porter said: “GMP were contacted due to concerns raised by women and girls about a male exhibiting predatory behaviour.

“This occurred in locations close to schools which obviously increased public concern. The behaviour ranged from the male approaching people to get in his car to taking photos and making personal comments.

“Due to the support from our community, partners and people contacting us, we were able to quickly identify and arrest the male.

“The investigation is still very much underway, and I would urge anybody with any information to make contact with us on 0161 856 8719.

“It's important that as a community we come together, to call out behaviours that make women and girls feel unsafe in public, and I am grateful to everyone who contributed, to what was a swift police conclusion."
