Health and wellbeing sessions for those facing homelessness being held at Molesworth House

Date published: 04 November 2021

Regular health and wellbeing sessions for those facing homelessness are being held at Molesworth House, part of the Molesworth Hotel.

Molesworth House provides accommodation for a number of residents who face homelessness and issues with accessing housing at its premises in Molesworth Hotel on Molesworth Street, Rochdale.

The first session, organised by the Centre of Wellbeing, Training and Culture, was warmly welcomed by residents on 22 October.

The first workshop was delivered by Mohammed Sarwar and offered help and advice on self-development, confidence building, learning to communicate effectively, and building a resilient mindset.

Those participating in the workshop said it helped them to focus on building their resilience to improve their wellbeing, and that they are looking forward to further sessions.

One of the residents said he has “never had the opportunity” to engage in an open discussion in a friendly environment before and the session helped him realise how many opportunities are available for him.

Another said the session helped him make friends with people he sees every day, and how to engage in a good conversation. He said he is already looking forward to the next workshop, which will cover various aspects of mental health.

Next month’s workshop by the Centre of Wellbeing, Training and Culture will cover: causes of mental health; how services can help children, young people and their families; awareness of appropriate referral services to prevent future crisis; access to services; and how society can reduce stigma of mental health.

Molesworth House will also be holding homelessness advice surgeries every Thursday afternoon from 12noon - 3pm. The surgeries will be offered by one of the managers with a background in housing; she has worked for the local authority for 15 years providing services for homeless people.

The advice surgeries are free to anyone who would benefit from housing-related advice and guidance around accessing services.

A spokesperson from the hotel said: “As we continue to work with more people facing homelessness, we are looking at different ways to benefit those that use our accommodation so they can get the most from their stay.

“When they leave our accommodation, we want them to take with them a positive attitude and skills that will help them settle in to more long-term or permanent accommodation.”
