Central Rochdale set for additional investment

More investment is on the way to Rochdale after Lower Falinge was awarded a £1.49m estate regeneration grant from the Brownfield Land Release Fund as part of the October Budget announcements.

The funding will allow local mutual housing society RBH to further invest in improvements to existing homes at Lower Falinge as well as works to bring forward the future development of new homes to meet the needs of current residents and future generations.

The grant funding will also provide for additional improvements to green spaces and play facilities within the neighbourhood.

The award follows a funding bid made by Rochdale Borough Council and supported by RBH.

Gareth Swarbrick, RBH Chief Executive, said: "We've worked hard alongside the local community to develop our long-term plans to make sure that Lower Falinge is a great place to live for current and future residents.

"We're really pleased to receive this additional grant funding to enable us to deliver new and improved homes in the area as well as fantastic new community facilities.

"We all want to see a thriving Rochdale town centre with more homes, the right quality and mix of affordable homes, and a retail, cultural, and leisure offer that encourages people to live, work, play, and invest in Rochdale.

"This funding is another part of our partnership working with Rochdale Borough Council to help deliver this thriving town centre."

Councillor Daniel Meredith, the council’s cabinet member for housing, said: “We are working hard to bring as much money into the borough as we can.

“This funding follows on from other recent successes including £17m from the Future High Streets fund and £23.6m from the Towns Fund which we secured earlier this year. It is another step towards the delivery of our £400m transformation of Rochdale town centre.”
