Date published: 30 October 2021

Dancers from Whitworth’s Samba Dance and Fitness recently attended and celebrated success at the ‘Dance It’ Championships in Skegness.

The team, made of girls aged six to 18 years, took part in the British championship from Friday 22 to Sunday 24 October, competing in Solo, Pairs and Team events.

Both teams won their dance sections and placed second in the show teams, gaining over 80 trophies, medals, and sashes between them.

Samantha Clarke, Principal at Samba Dance and Fitness, which has been established for over 22 years in Whitworth, said: “After the last 18 months of not competing due to Covid-19 we did wonder if we would ever get to do this again. It was like we have never been away.

“The girls have come on so much and given 100% commitment during lockdown and when we could finally return to class the determination from each dancer to compete was overwhelming. They are more of a family than teammates, each one danced amazing and as teachers we couldn’t have asked for anything more from them.

“To see them doing the one thing they love again on a large dancefloor with hundreds of other dancers was very emotional. Let’s hope this is the start of normality for our children.

“May this continue into 2022.”
