Thief sentenced to 10 weeks in prison after breaking into Parents Against Grooming UK hub

Date published: 02 September 2021

A thief who broke into the Parents Against Grooming UK hub on Yorkshire Street, Rochdale, has been sentenced to 10 weeks in prison.

Darren James Fay, 34, of Rochdale, pleaded guilty to burglary at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on 19 August after breaking into the shop two days prior.

Both the window and door of the hub, covered by CCTV and metal bars, were broken to gain access before a number of items and cash from donation boxes and a till were taken.

The money taken was the group’s annual Christmas present fund, which sees the non-profit group hand out hundreds of presents to local children each December.

Fay was also ordered to pay £60 compensation.
