30 people walk from Rochdale to Hebden Bridge in celebration of Daisy Taylor

Date published: 01 September 2021

Thirty people took part in a sponsored walk from Rochdale to Hebden Bridge and back to celebrate the life of two-year-old Daisy Taylor, who sadly lost her brave battle with cancer in July.

The group – including Daisy’s parents Lance and Toni, who took Daisy’s favourite toy with them – set off from the Regal Moon pub in Rochdale centre before walking approximately 30 miles to Hebden Bridge and back, raising over £4,300 in the process.

Daisy was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in February, undergoing intensive chemotherapy over the past five months and a bone marrow transplant to help her fight the diagnosis. Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) is a type of blood cancer that starts from young white blood cells called granulocytes or monocytes in the bone marrow

Sadly, five months after her diagnosis, Daisy passed away with her parents by her side on 26 July.

Close family friend and walk organiser Lyndsey Webster has thanked everyone for their generosity since February. The walk on 29 August raised £4,376 whilst a previous fundraiser started by Lyndsey in February – after Daisy was first diagnosed with cancer – raised £6,845 for her parents.

Lyndsey said: “Thank you to everyone for the donations. It’s been quite overwhelming actually, just how kind people have been. Everyone who did the walk did amazingly.

“I am so grateful to the people who donated to the previous fundraiser too, as this bought time for Toni and Lance to not have to go to work and to be at Daisy’s bedside for what unfortunately turned out to be her last months of life.”
