Volunteers and a van needed to help move generous donations made to Singleton’s Dance Academy for refugees

Date published: 25 August 2021

Volunteers and a van are needed on Thursday (26 August) to help transport donations for Afghan refugees from Singleton’s Dance Academy on Mellor Street to the Care4Calais depot in Stockport.

Singleton’s Dance Academy last week became a registered donation drop-off point with the volunteer-run refugee charity which is aiding those fleeing Afghanistan following the Taliban taking control.

Since weekend, three huge rooms at Singleton’s have now been filled with an overwhelming amount of donations.

Gemma Singleton, who runs the academy, said: “We need anyone with a van plus volunteers to help load vans, transport donations to the sorting depot in Stockport, and then unload them at the other side.”

Care4Calais is picking up donations from Gemma’s dance studio once a week, taking them to its main hub in Manchester to be sorted by size before distributions, but further help is needed due to the amount of donations received.

Donations temporarily cannot be made at Singleton’s until Friday (27 August).

Volunteers are needed between 10am and 3pm.
