Rochdale: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to promote social distancing measures due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Expected finish: Sunday 2 January 2022, or until such measures are deemed unnecessary.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Packer Street, from its junction with South Parade.
Alternative route: the alternative route is The Esplanade, Manchester Road, Drake Street, School Lane and Church Lane.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to enable an archaeological dig to take place.

Expected start and finish: 1 July 2021 - 31 January 2022.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Packer Street, from its junction with South Parade up to and including its junction with Nelson Street. And temporary closure of Fleece Street, from its junction with King Street to its junction with Packer Street.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to repair a subsiding carriageway.

Expected finish: Monday 23 August 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Dell Road:

  • From a point 958 metres in a southerly direction from its junction with Market Street for a distance of 100 metres in a southerly direction.
  • From a point 673 metres in a northerly direction from its junction with Shawclough Road for a distance of 75 metres in a northerly direction.

Alternative routes: the alternative route for vehicles will be Market Street, Shawclough Road and Dell Road.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to repair a clean water manhole chamber in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 8am, Monday 23 August - 5.30pm, Wednesday 25 August 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Belfield Lane, from its junction with Hesketh Street to a point 30  metres in a southerly direction.
Alternative routes: the alternative route for vehicles will be Samson Street, Albert Royds Street and Milnrow Road.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to install an electric mains in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 8am, Monday 23 August - 5pm, Wednesday 1 September 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Hill Top Drive, from the junction of Balderstone Road for a distance of 10 metres in a southerly direction.
Alternative routes: the alternative route for vehicles will be Balderstone Road, Oldham Road and Melbourne Road.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to install an electric mains cable in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish & restriction and location::

  • Phase 1 – temporary closure of Dane Street westbound, from its junction with Manchester Road to a point 95 metres in a westerly direction from 7pm, Wednesday 25 August - 5am, Thursday 26 August 2021. Eastbound vehicles won't be affected.
  • Phase 2 – temporary closure of Dane Street eastbound, from a point 125 metres west of its junction with Manchester Road to the junction itself from 7pm, Thursday 26 August - 5am, Friday 27 August 2021. Westbound vehicles won't be affected.

Alternative routes: the alternative route for vehicles will be Mellor Street, College Road, St Mary's Gate, and Dane Street.

Middleton: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Middleton
Reason: to resurface the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 7.30am - 5.30pm each day from 24 July - Friday 10 September 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Windermere Road, from its junction with Wood Street to its junction with Bowness Road.
Alternative routes: alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closures are in place.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council.

Area: Middleton
Reason: to facilitate an electrical connection in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: Monday 16 August - Sunday 22 August 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Uplands, from its junction with Kingsway for a distance of 50 metres in a northerly direction.
Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles will be Rookway, Crow Hill North and Kingsway.

Heywood: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Heywood
Reason: Virgin Media are currently installing new Fibre Broadband in the Heywood area.

Expected start and finish: ongoing
Who to contact: for any issues about this work, please use the following methods to gain the quickest and safest possible resolution.

  1. Contractors on site - contact a site supervisor. They are best placed to resolve many issues there and then. In most instances, this will be the quickest and safest way to resolve any issue.
  2. Virgin Media Helpdesk - if unresolved, or there are no contractors in the area, or if the site has been left in an unsafe manner and requires urgent attention, please ring the Virgin Media helpdesk on 0333 000 5925. The helpdesk hours are: Monday–Friday, 8am–7.30pm & Saturday, 8am–12noon. The helpdesk will alert the contractor and Virgin Media's compliance engineers. Alternatively, please email expansionworks@virginmedia.co.uk with details of your address and preferred contact method.
  3. Rochdale Borough Council Highways - we need to be aware of issues being raised with Virgin Media. Please email highways@rochdale.gov.uk or phone on 0300 303 8879, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. At all other times, please phone our Contact Centre on 0300 303 8875 for emergency work on the highway.

Area: Heywood
Reason: to fix a leaking water service in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: Sunday 8 August - Saturday 28 August 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Bow Lane, from its junction with Taylor Street for a distance of 50 metres in an easterly direction
Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles is Bow Lane, Hind Hill Street, Market Place and Taylor Street.

Pennines: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Pennines
Reason: to resurface the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 7.30am - 5.30pm each day from 22 July - Sunday 29 August 2021.
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary closure of Whitelees Road, from its junction with Wardle Street to its junction with Calderbrook Road, Shore Road and Hare Hill Road.
  • Temporary closure of Calderbrook Road, from its junction with Whitelees Road, Shore Road and Hare Hill Road to a point 70 metres north east of its junction with Clough Road.

Alternative routes: the alternative route for vehicles will be signed on street when the closures are in place.

Area: Pennines
Reason: to repair a damaged water main in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: Thursday 12 August - Thursday 2 September 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Whitehead Street, from its junction with Rochdale Road for a distance of 30 metres in a north easterly direction.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council.

Area: Pennines
Reason: to install new gas mains in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: Monday 16 August - Wednesday 1 September 2021.
Restriction and location:

  • Introduction of one-way working in an easterly direction along Bridge Street. Vehicles won't be able to travel along Bridge Street in a westerly direction from its junction with Kiln Lane to its junction with Elizabethan Way and Rochdale Road.
  • Vehicles won't be able to turn right from Nall Street onto Bridge Street.
  • Vehicles won't be able to turn right from Halliwell Street onto Bridge Street.
  • Vehicles won't be able to turn right from Harbour Lane North onto Bridge Street. 

Alternative routes: the alternative route for vehicles will be Dale Street, Newhey Road and Elizabethan Way.
