Kind-hearted business owners start fundraiser to send terminally ill Middleton mum-of-four on holiday

Date published: 19 August 2021

Kind-hearted business owners have started a fundraiser to send a terminally-ill Middleton mum-of-four on holiday with her children.

Ian, Andrea, and Denby Kilgannon, who own Mrs K's Kaff at Lakeland Court in Middleton, have started a fundraiser for terminally-ill Shona Travis.

Shona, 36, a single mother to four children aged 11, seven, three and one, has recently been diagnosed with a terminal illness. She is currently undergoing treatment so she can spend as long as possible with her children.

Her family have requested the nature of Shona’s illness not be published for the sake of her children.

The Kilgannons are aiming to raise £2,500 so that Shona and her children can have a family holiday “to make some happy memories of their mum.”

The Kilgannons said: “As a family, we wanted to help them so booked a caravan for five days in Blackpool, plus a minibus to take them and bring them home.

“We want to raise enough money for them to take away so they can have a brilliant, fun-filled five days and not have to count the pennies whilst away.

“The family who we have rented the caravan from have very kindly donated the break so we have started our fundraising by putting in the rental charges ourselves.

“We please ask if anyone has any money they could spare that they please help this young family in this horrible situation.”

Several fundraisers will be taking place throughout September to ease any financial burdens for Shona, including one organised by Boarshaw community foodbank based at Boarshaw Working Men’s Club.

DJ Kevin Dormer, who is DJ-ing the fundraiser for Shona at Boarshaw Working Men’s Club, said: “We are appealing to our community to help Shona and her children make lifelong memories, as her children are so young and don’t understand what is happening or what the future holds for them.

“This is where we need your help.

“Let's help Shona give her children the best time possible while she still can.”

  • Gardeners Arms – 12pm-6pm, Saturday 4 September
  • Woodside Working Men’s Club – 3pm-11pm, Sunday 5 September
  • Alkrington Village Craft Market – from 10am, Sunday 12 September
  • Stars in their Eyes at Boarshaw Working Mens’ Club – from 7.30pm, Friday 17 September

Donations towards Shona and her children’s holiday can be made via JustGiving:
