Exceptional A-level and BTEC achievements for Bury College students

Date published: 13 August 2021

It has been a year of exceptional achievement for hundreds of Bury College students who have received their results this week.

An initial study of the results indicates:

  • 91 Advanced Level 3 courses achieving 100% pass rates
  • 250 students achieving Triple Distinctions or above
  • An excellent pass rate of 98% for Advanced Level courses

Some of the students who have achieved fantastic results included two former students of Holy Family Roman Catholic and Church of England College in Heywood:

Samuel Nolan achieved a Distinction Star in his Public Services Level 3 course and is going on to an apprenticeship with Greater Manchester Police. He said: “I have worked really hard for my results, and the tutoring staff have been amazing and helped me throughout my two years, and have given me the chance to follow my dreams. I have enjoyed my time in college and in the Public Service department, doing trips such as riot training and to an Aircraft Carrier (HMS Prince Wales).”

Ellie Skorzewski acheived three A grades in A levels in business, maths and accounting. She is going on to an audit apprenticeship at KPMG. She said: “I am so happy with my results, I was not expecting to do that well! Bury College has made me aware of all my future options and the tutors supported me to achieve the career path I wanted, and I’m now really excited to start my work life.”

Charlie Deane, Bury College Principal and Chief Executive, is delighted. He said: “Bury College is incredibly proud of all its students who have continued to adapt and progress, both academically and personally through challenging times. They are a credit to the college, themselves, their families and the wider Bury community.

“After another year of exceptional results, hundreds of students have had their hard work pay off and are on target to take up university places, and many more will be progressing into jobs and apprenticeships.

“Bury College is committed to delivering positive futures for all our students. Students benefit from a wide range of key personal development opportunities within their studies, which provide them with vital skills for jobs as well as skills for life.

“On behalf of the Bury College Corporation and all our staff, I would like to take this opportunity to wish our students every success at university, work or further study.”
