Battle of Minden commemoration 2021
Rochdale & District Fusiliers Association, along with the Lancashire Headquarters, held a Drumhead service at Rochdale Cenotaph on Sunday 1 August to commemorate the 262nd anniversary of the Battle of Minden.
The Rochdale Branch Padre, Reverend Margaret Smith, conducted the service which was attended by the Mayor of Rochdale Councillor Aasim Rashid and Col Brian Gorski MBE DL.
Minden Day is a regimental anniversary celebrated on 1 August. It commemorates the participation of the forerunners of the regiments in the Battle of Minden during the Seven Years' War.
The 20th Regiment of Foot, predecessors of the Lancashire Fusiliers, were one of six British regiments to take part in the Battle of Minden on 1 August 1759.
An Anglo-Hanoverian army led by Ferdinand of Brunswick defeated a French army led by the Marshal de Contades at Minden, which is located on the River Weser, not far from Hanover, Germany.
